The Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association’s initiative to train students at selected senior high and technical schools in Bolgatanga has concluded successfully, with various schools embracing the sport enthusiastically.
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that combines combat techniques, self-defense, sports, and philosophy.
The team, led by Coach Michael Ayine and Jesse Apalazoya, who is both an administrator and coach, visited Bolgatanga Technical Institute, Bolgatanga Central Technical Institute, Bolgatanga Senior High School, Zamse Senior High/Technical School, and Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School.
They demonstrated the sport and educated students about its benefits, which include promoting physical fitness, developing discipline and focus, building confidence and self-esteem, encouraging teamwork, identifying and nurturing talent, providing a positive outlet, and empowering girls and women.
Introducing Taekwondo training in schools aimed to positively impact the lives of young people in Bolgatanga by promoting physical and personal development, discipline, and teamwork.
Following a successful demonstration of the sport, Jesse Apalazoya announced that the various schools have approved the start of regular training sessions, which are scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 14, 2024, starting with Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (BOGISS).
He added that they aim to build a disciplined environment for the participants, believing that much can be achieved through unity. Apalazoya also emphasized their commitment to shaping athletes for a disciplined life and a secure future.
