The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer, Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini, has voiced strong disapproval of recent comments made by Isaac Adongo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, regarding the educational and professional background of his opponent, Elvis Atia Awonekai of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr. Adongo’s remarks, delivered during a mini rally last week, have sparked controversy and criticism.
Mr. Adongo asserted that he is more accomplished than Awonekai, dismissing the latter’s academic and professional achievements. He belittled Awonekai’s education, which includes attending Garden City University, and his current role as an accounts clerk at a community health facility.
Mr. Adongo described these accomplishments as less impressive compared to his own experiences, emphasizing that Awonekai’s profession is not one children aspire to in the future.
“Is it that the school he went to is better than mine? He’s done well, but we’re not talking about top institutions like the University of Ghana or the University of Cape Coast. You’d want to grow up to be an accounts clerk?” He said. He contrasted his status with that of Awonekai, suggesting that his profile offers a more aspirational model for the youth.
In response, Salahu-Deen Musah criticized Adongo’s remarks as divisive and disrespectful.
He urged voters to reconsider their choice and support candidates who genuinely care about their constituents and believe in gradual, inclusive progress.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Al-Khomeini questioned whether Adongo’s dismissal of the accounting profession undermines the value and dignity of people working in such roles, arguing that all professions have merit and contribute to societal development.
