Robert Aloo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Chiana-Paga, has stated that he intends to prioritize the construction of classroom blocks and improve educational resources should he win the upcoming elections.
He emphasized a strong focus on infrastructure development, particularly in education and healthcare.
He highlighted recent donations of dual desks to local schools, demonstrating his commitment to enhancing the learning environment. “Quite recently, I donated close to 150 dual desks to schools. Some were shared with Nabango Senior High Technical School, and others were distributed to Junior High Schools.”
He was speaking to Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show recently.
Additionally, he plans to incentivize teachers with transportation allowances and provide essential teaching materials. He underscored a key initiative that includes transforming the three senior high schools in the constituency, including Paga Senior High School, from day schools to boarding institutions. “Infrastructure is one thing we are going to look at. We are also looking at encouraging teachers.”
In the health sector, he stated his intentions to improve infrastructure and support healthcare professionals. He proposed the creation of an endowment fund to assist local students pursuing medical degrees, ensuring that qualified doctors return to serve the community as new healthcare facilities, such as the Agenda 111 project, are developed. “I have this policy where we should have the funding to support people who will pursue medicine. We are going to create an endowment fund to support individuals from our constituency who will study medicine because you can’t have Agenda 111 coming in without having doctors to work in the constituency. We want to sponsor our own people who will go and study medicine and return to our constituency to practice.”
According to him, community engagement will be central to his approach as an MP, with plans for quarterly meetings to discuss local issues. Mr. Aloo also aims to ensure access to potable drinking water for all communities, building on his previous success in drilling boreholes, with a target of 30 new boreholes by election time. “We intend for every community to have access to potable drinking water, so we are looking at how we can engage various stakeholders to bring water. I started it. By the end of the 2020 elections, I had drilled about 25 boreholes. This year, I have already drilled five boreholes and have four in the pipeline. A friend from the U.S. is supporting me, and I hope that by the end of the elections, I should have drilled up to thirty boreholes,” he said.
In sports development, the parliamentary candidate mentioned his plans to construct astroturf fields across the constituency to promote athletic programs and community engagement. “For sports, the plan is to build astroturf fields—at least one in the east, one in the Chiana area (the west), and one in the north (the Paga area).”
He addressed the current government’s performance, dismissing claims of widespread hardship. He suggested that while challenges exist, the government has made significant progress since 2020. “Talking about hardship, it’s relative. This government has done so much well. From 2020 until now, we all know the challenges that the country has faced, but we have navigated through the storm.”
Meanwhile, he is confident that his experience and commitment to development will resonate with voters in Chiana-Paga as the election approaches. “I am looking for votes, and I know where the votes are. I go for my votes over there. I have done it before. I have had the experience,” he added.
