The Kalbeo/Tindonsobilgo Junior High School in the Bolgatanga municipality of the Upper East Region is facing a severe furniture deficit, forcing parents to either buy decks for their children or have them sit on the floor to learn.

This dire situation has left many parents frustrated, citing financial constraints as the reason they cannot afford to buy furniture for their wards.

Some parents who spoke to A1 News expressed their concerns, highlighting the need for immediate action. “We’re struggling to make ends meet, and now we have to worry about buying furniture for our children’s school,” said one parent, Mr. Atanpugre Atambire.

James Aware, the Chairman of the Parents Association (PA) at KTS Junior High School, echoed these concerns, stating that the situation is particularly dire in JHS One. “We need at least 60 to 70 mono decks to alleviate this problem,” he appealed.

Research has shown that proper furniture is essential for effective learning, as it promotes comfort, concentration, and engagement. Studies suggest that furniture can impact a child’s learning experience, with comfortable seating linked to better academic performance.

The PA executives are calling on well-meaning individuals and stakeholders to come to the school’s aid. “We urge anyone who can help to support us in providing a conducive learning environment for our children,” they said.

As the school struggles to provide basic furniture, concerns about the impact on students’ education and well-being grow. Community support is crucial in addressing this issue and ensuring that students have a comfortable and productive learning space.

When A1 News contacted the Bolgatanga Municipal Education Directorate’s Public Relations Unit about the concerns of KTS Junior High, Fredrick Agunga-Dongo Ayine acknowledged that while the concern had not yet reached the directorate, it is indeed true that there is a furniture deficit in many schools in the municipality, which is a worry for them.

Mr. Agunga-Dongo stated that when the directorate receives decks, they will address these issues. He also called on the general public to support the directorate in order to help tackle the growing concerns of furniture deficits in the municipality.
