Independent presidential candidate George Twum-Barimah-Adu has noted that his campaign ahead of the December 7 polls is seeing a positive reaction as the electorate accepts his messages.
He detailed the positive reception of his policies, particularly the ‘Agric for Wealth’ initiative, which aims to enhance the livelihoods of farmers across the nation. Farmers have reportedly shown enthusiasm for the potential impact of this policy on their economic well-being. “My confidence in winning the 2024 elections has not changed. If anything, it has been boosted by the reception we received across the country.”
Mr, Barimah-Adu also highlighted the ‘E-Sika’ savings program, designed to help individuals save for their future while facilitating homeownership and welfare funding. His ‘Ghana First’ policy, which focuses on reimagining national priorities, he said, has similarly resonated with voters. He noted that his campaign has garnered support from various communities, evident in the endorsements he received across all 261 districts nationwide.
“It has been quite good, and it became obvious how we were able to get people to endorse my nomination form across all 261 districts because they received my message quite well and are prepared to come along with me to bring common prosperity for all.”
The candidate acknowledged that initial skepticism toward politics has shifted, with many expressing a desire for alternatives to the traditional NDC and NPP parties. He remains confident in his ability to sway voters, emphasizing the importance of engagement and campaign intensification in the coming weeks.
“Initially, when you went to places, people told us they were not interested in politics, but we told them we are not NDC or NPP, then they said, ‘Okay, we can come in.’ So it became obvious that the people don’t want to hear about NDC or NPP. They want something new, a new perspective, a fresh breath in Ghana’s politics, so yes, my confidence has been increased and boosted by the respect we have received across the country.”
Responding to concerns about his position in online polls, Mr. Barimah-Adu emphasized the dynamic nature of politics, asserting that perspectives can change rapidly. “When it comes to politics, two weeks, three weeks, four weeks is a lot. It can change a whole perspective; that is why I’m still very confident.” “I know Ghanaians will choose me wherever God places me,” he added.
He encouraged Ghanaians to embrace the opportunity for change, arguing that previous experiences with the two main parties have not yielded satisfactory results. “For the first time, Ghanaians are going to see a government that is not only about economic growth but about development towards common prosperity.” “Ghanaians shouldn’t be afraid to make a change. They have tried two parties, and they did not work.”
He added that, as he prepares for the election, he aims to sharpen his message, advocating for a government that prioritizes both economic growth and human development. “Now that I am officially a candidate, I’m going to intensify my campaign. All the focal points across the country are going to do more engagement work, engaging with the electorate and the public.”
He believes that his approach, including policies that empower local youth through district contracts, will resonate with voters seeking genuine progress and prosperity. “We are going to sharpen our message. We are going to let people know that the NDC and the NPP haven’t offered any better opportunities. They have pursued economic growth over human development aspects of growth, and we are going to combine both to ensure that what we bring to Ghanaians is indeed something that will bring about economic growth and the development of the individual through common prosperity policies such as district policies for the youth, which is basically something where any contract that goes to the district, the youth in the district who qualify are the ones who will execute the contract,” he said.
