The Ghana Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP) has called for the decentralization of information on climate management and adaptation to better inform farmers at the rural level.

The Federation believes that timely and accessible information is crucial for farmers to adequately plan for climate-related challenges and adapt their farming practices.

“Farmers in rural areas are often left out of the conversation when it comes to climate change adaptation. It is essential that information is decentralized so that they can make informed decisions and plan ahead,” Hajia Sagito-Saeed said.

Hajia Alima Sagito-Saeed, National President of GhaFFaP, made this appeal during the 4th edition of the National Dialogue Series held in Bolgatanga. While commending the government for implementing the ‘1 Village 1 Dam’ policy, Hajia Sagito-Saeed also urged the government to improve upon the initiative to ensure it serves its intended purpose of supporting year-round farming.

“There is no farm where there is no water and so as a federation, we were so much happy with the ‘1 Village 1 Dam’ policy because the essence was supposed to have people farm all year round. We are asking that the policy should be improved”, she appealed.

The 4th edition of the National Dialogue Series was organized by GhaFFaP in collaboration with the Forestry Commission of Ghana and the Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Development Studies, with support from the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF).

The event, themed “Smallholder Producer Organizations’ Access to Finance, Market Linkages, and Social Protection: Key to Delivering Sustainable Climate Resilience and Green Recovery,” provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss the challenges faced by smallholder producers in Ghana.

Mark Akparibo, Executive Director of Tele-Bere indicated that GhaFFaP which has about 15 farms and forest producers in the 3 ecological zones of Ghana – the Savannah, Transition, and Forest zones envisage building strong and profitable forests and farms businesses and contribute towards climate reliance.
