Women in Broadcasting, an organization dedicated to supporting and uniting women in the media sector in the Upper East Region, is set to kick off a peace campaign in Tongo, Talensi District, on Saturday, October 5.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of peaceful conduct during the upcoming December elections, with a particular focus on the role of women in promoting a non-violent electoral process.
Scheduled to begin at 9 AM in the main Tongo market, the campaign will engage the general public, emphasizing the empowerment of women to influence their families and communities. Organizers stress that the elections should be about ballots, not bullets, and encourage women to discuss the importance of peace with their children, brothers, fathers, and husbands.
Tongo marks the first stop in a series of planned activities, with additional campaigns scheduled for Navrongo, Paga, Bongo, Zuarungu, and Bolga Central leading up to the elections.
In an interview on A1 Radio, the president of the organization, Humul Khrusum Tahiru, explained that in addition to raising awareness, the organization is seeking financial support to facilitate transportation and logistics for the campaign. She noted that they have reached out to individuals and corporate entities for assistance and invite community members to participate in the campaign, with a meeting point set for 7 AM at the social center in Bolgatanga before heading to Tongo. “We need help in the form of cash because we will be transporting women there. We’ve written letters, which are still being distributed, and we hope that once these letters reach some individuals and corporate organizations, they will support us financially.”
“If you are free tomorrow and would like to join us, you are welcome. We will meet at 7 AM at the social center to head to Tongo,” she added.
She also expressed openness to collaborations with other organizations focused on women’s and children’s issues, aiming to leverage their resources for maximum impact. “We want to use this opportunity to call on all individuals and civil society organizations interested in activities involving women, children, and the elderly. We are a strong organization that can help achieve maximum results, and we are ready and open to collaborations.”
She encouraged community members to follow the organization on social media @WOMEN IN BROADCASTING for updates and more information. “They should go to social media and follow us to learn more about our activities,” she said.
