The President of the Talensi Traditional Council, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, has urged political parties to prioritize peace and development in the Upper East Region as they prepare for the general elections.

“We want to ensure that the parties that come here work towards peace with their supporters. It’s not war that we are seeking; we are looking at a situation where we can develop the area.”

He emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony among supporters, stating that differing political affiliations should not lead to conflict. He stressed that the time for politics should not be a time for conflict but rather a period focused on community development and collaboration.

He called on all parties to conduct their campaigns with respect and decorum, stressing that the focus should be on electing candidates who will meet the community’s needs and drive progress. “I would like to appeal to all parties campaigning here to do so with a level of decorum and a commitment to peace. It must be peace, peace, peace for the people.”

Furthermore, he encouraged voters to consider candidates based on their ability to deliver essential developmental projects and meet the community’s needs. “They should vote for whoever they believe will provide for their needs and deliver developmental projects. That is what is most important. Voters should look for candidates who will bring development and community work to this area. Those are the things we need.”

He reinforced the idea that politics should serve the community’s interests rather than foster division. “This region is so deprived, and we don’t want anything that will portray us as a region full of troubles and disturbances.”

His remarks came as the Women in Broadcasting visited his palace on Saturday, October 5, before embarking on their peace campaign in Tongo.
