The Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club has come to the aid of Dorongo Primary School in the Bolgatanga Municipality by donating 63 dual desks to address the school’s longstanding furniture shortage. Prior to this donation, many pupils were compelled to lie on the floor in classrooms, struggling to write and learn without proper seating.
This situation hindered the smooth teaching and learning process, leaving both students and teachers frustrated.
Philip Yeli-Oni, President of the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club, expressed hope that the donation would significantly improve the academic performance of the pupils. “We believe this gesture will go a long way in enhancing learning outcomes,” he said, urging the school authorities, students, and the community to take good care of the new furniture. The donation, valued at approximately 37,000 cedis, was funded by the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club and fellow Rotarians from around the world.
The headteacher of Dorongo Primary School, Alice Edna Guribie, expressed deep gratitude for the donation. She explained that the lack of desks had severely affected students’ handwriting, as they had to lie on the floor to write, which also made teaching and classroom monitoring difficult. “Many students have left for other schools, likely due to the poor conditions here. We hope this furniture will bring back students and improve academic performance,” she said.
Established in 2011, the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club has been involved in various projects aimed at improving society. These initiatives include transforming the KVIP at Bolgatanga Senior High School into micro-flush toilet facilities, constructing mechanized boreholes for Zuarungu SHS and the Bolgatanga Experimental Cluster of Schools, and building modern toilet facilities for Zamse SHTS and Kongo SHS.
