Following the first peace campaign in Tongo, the Women in Broadcasting (WIB) group launched their second peace campaign in Bongo on Friday, October 11. The campaign aims to foster a culture of tranquility as the nation approaches the December elections.

This initiative underscores the critical role women play in promoting peace, particularly in communities where they are often the most vulnerable during times of political upheaval.

The campaign began with a formal visit to the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Lemyaarum, who warmly welcomed the women and granted them permission to carry out their campaign.

With his support, the group embarked on a vibrant march through the streets, culminating in a gathering at the district hospital area. The atmosphere was charged with a sense of purpose as they carried brightly colored placards bearing powerful messages such as “Elect leaders who promote harmony,” “Let’s stand together for peaceful elections,” “Choose dialogue over division,” and “Your vote is your voice for change.”

As they navigated the bustling streets, the women engaged with local market vendors, focusing particularly on women, whose influence within their families and communities is significant.

Through meaningful interactions, they encouraged these women to become advocates for peace, emphasizing the importance of fostering peaceful dialogue within their homes and communities. The conversations aimed not only to raise awareness about the importance of peaceful elections but also to empower women to take an active role in shaping the political landscape.

By highlighting the need for peace and unity, WIB strives to create an environment where everyone can exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation. Looking ahead, the campaigners have set their sights on Navrongo and Paga, where they plan to continue their outreach in the coming weeks.
