Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, has renovated the dilapidated St. Paul Junior High School block in the Bolga-Soe community and officially handed over the newly refurbished facility to the Ghana Education Service and school authorities.
At the handing-over ceremony, Mr. Adongo stated that his commitment to addressing educational challenges in the constituency motivated him to take action after learning about the school’s plight following its 60th anniversary, which he was unable to attend, during which the school management made an appeal for assistance.
According to the MP, it’s not just St. Paul Junior High School that has benefited from renovations; other basic schools in the municipality have also undergone rehabilitation to ensure effective teaching and learning.
“I was informed about the condition of this school after the 60th anniversary, which I could not attend, and that is what led to this project. I’ve had several requests, including from the 37 December Primary School and Umaria Primary School. Both were awarded contracts for rehabilitation. This school and the 37 December Primary School have been completed and handed over. I’m also aware that the Umaria school block is almost completed,” he said.
The over 60-year-old school had been in a very poor state, with limited classroom facilities for the growing student population. This situation forced the school authorities to convert a structure originally intended as an ICT laboratory into a classroom for JHS 3 students. Additionally, community members had started constructing classrooms for the school, though this project had stalled at the foundation level for some time.
During the handover of the renovated JHS block, Mr. Adongo promised to take over and ensure the completion of the stalled classroom block to improve the infrastructure of both St. Paul Primary and Junior High Schools.
Headteacher Michael Ayinbisa expressed great excitement and gratitude to the MP for the renovation of the block and for his assurance that the structure at the foundation level would be completed.
Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Director of Education, Public Relations Officer Fredrick Agunga-Dongo Ayine thanked the MP for his continued support of the Ghana Education Service (GES). He also expressed appreciation for this latest gesture and called on Mr. Adongo and other individuals to assist the Directorate, as they continue to face challenges, particularly a shortage of furniture in various schools.
