Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, has authorized the release of GH₵231,200 from his portion of the Common Fund to support the educational aspirations of 264 students in his constituency.
This initiative, part of his ongoing Students’ Support Programme launched in 2017, aims to alleviate the financial burden of school fees for deserving students.
In a letter dated September 15, 2024, addressed to the Builsa South District Assembly, Dr. Apaak, who serves as the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee and a spokesperson on education for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 campaign, detailed the distribution of funds among the beneficiaries.
Of the 264 students selected by his Students’ Support Selection Committee from a total of 426 applications, 140 are female and 124 are male.
The breakdown of the beneficiaries indicates that 182 students are enrolled in various universities, while 82 are attending nursing and teacher training colleges.
Each university student will receive a support package of GH₵1,000, and nursing and teacher trainees will receive GH₵600 each. This financial assistance is crucial in helping these students continue their education and achieve their career goals.
He indicated that due to limited funding, not all applicants could be accommodated this year. However, Dr. Apaak encourages those who were not selected to reapply in the next cycle, assuring them that priority will be given to those who met the eligibility criteria but were unable to receive support this time.
Since its inception, Dr. Apaak’s Students’ Support Programme has significantly impacted the educational landscape in Builsa South. Over the past seven years, the program has supported a total of 995 students, distributing a cumulative amount of GH₵747,000.
This initiative underscores Dr. Apaak’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities within his constituency and reflects his dedication to public service.
Beyond education, Dr. Apaak has initiated various transformative interventions across multiple sectors, including healthcare delivery, water and sanitation, youth and women empowerment, and agriculture.
Dr. Apaak’s initiatives not only provide immediate financial relief to students but also foster long-term benefits for the community, as educated individuals contribute to the region’s development.
