The Advisory Council of His Royal Highness Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II has cautioned political party executives in the Bawku Zone to refrain from intimidating their political opponents and exploiting local disturbances for political gain.
The council urged all political actors to conduct their campaigns freely and peacefully in the run-up to the December 7th, 2024, general elections.
It stressed that no one should fear intimidation while supporting their preferred political parties and candidates, calling for peaceful coexistence among residents despite political differences.
The advisory team, led by Wan-Nab and Naba Thomas Abilla, met with representatives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives from the Zebilla constituency during a sensitization program.
The meeting focused on promoting peace and stability before, during, and after the elections.
Youth leaders, opinion leaders, and chiefs of Kusuag were also engaged to ensure a unified approach toward maintaining harmony.
“We are committed to fostering peace in the Bawku Zone, and we will not tolerate any form of political intimidation or disruption,” Naba Abilla emphasized during the engagement.
“Everyone must campaign for their candidates without fear. We will hold accountable anyone who threatens peace or tries to manipulate the situation for political gain.”
The team from the Zugraan’s palace included Wan-Nab, Naba Thomas Abilla, who chaired the council; Patrick Adakurudu, who served as secretary; Kinab, also known as T.A., a council member; and Alhaji Seidu Abanga, another key member.
Both the NPP and NDC representatives at the meeting expressed their commitment to upholding peace in the upcoming elections and assured the council of their willingness to cooperate with traditional leaders to avoid violence.
The council’s engagement aligns with broader efforts to ensure a violence-free election season in the Bawku Zone, a region historically prone to tensions.
The council further called on political leaders, youth, and community members to collaborate and prioritize peace over partisanship as the elections approach.
The sensitization program reflects the role of traditional authorities in fostering stability and reaffirms their influence in ensuring the Bawku Zone remains peaceful despite political activities.
