Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, Andrew Atariwini, has stated that the NPP aims to secure a significant number of parliamentary seats in the region, potentially marking a record achievement in the Fourth Republic.

He acknowledged the historical dominance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in parliamentary votes, saying, “When it comes to the parliamentary votes, certainly, we can’t undo the dominance of the NDC in terms of their numerical strength, but we aim to win a number of seats that would be a record since the history of politics in the Fourth Republic.”

Mr. Atariwini addressed the party’s challenges in the Upper East and Upper West regions, pointing to internal conflicts that had affected the NPP during the last election cycle. He noted that these issues were so pronounced they hindered the party’s ability to present a united front, ultimately impacting voter sentiment.

“If you look at the last elections, there were a lot of issues within the party. The internal wranglings were so glaring that we couldn’t resolve them, and they came back to haunt the party.” He indicated that the party has since recognized these challenges and is working to overcome them.

Additionally, Mr. Atariwini highlighted progress made on various developmental projects, which he believes will help shift public perception of the NPP’s effectiveness in governance. He acknowledged that many promised initiatives were still in their early stages during the last elections, leading to a perception of underperformance in these regions. However, he is now confident that tangible results are becoming evident, particularly in healthcare and education.

The Deputy Communications Director pointed to completed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and improved educational infrastructure as indicators of the party’s commitment to development. He stated that these projects are now operational, and the visible progress across constituencies is beginning to instill hope among residents. “I believe that things have changed drastically. Now, the deliverables are quite clear. If you look at most of the CHPS compounds we have finished, the educational infrastructure we have built, the services that are running, and the massive health infrastructure ongoing in various constituencies, it gives people hope. People are now realizing that the government is performing well.”

He added that the NPP is determined to navigate its internal dynamics and leverage its accomplishments to win over constituents, aiming for a decisive electoral performance in the Upper East Region and a large win across the country.
