The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Zebilla Constituency, Ebenezer Ndebilla, has urged the government to prioritize peace efforts to restore stability in the area.

The renewed conflict has heightened concerns, with Ndebilla stressing the need for professionalism from security forces deployed in the area to ensure that peace initiatives are conducted effectively and impartially.

In a press release, the candidate emphasized that restoring peace should be the government’s foremost concern.

“We call on the security agencies to demonstrate professionalism in their efforts to maintain peace and order,” he remarked.

His call aligns with growing sentiments that any approach to quell the unrest must be measured, transparent, and devoid of favoritism to foster trust among the people of Bawku.

The Zebilla parliamentary candidate also called for vigilance from the international community, urging global stakeholders to closely monitor the government’s actions.

“We call on the international community to keep a close watch on the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to prevent the Bawku area and, by extension, Ghana, from descending into chaos during this election season,” he asserted.

This plea underscores fears that the current tensions, if left unaddressed, could have repercussions beyond Bawku, impacting Ghana’s stability, especially in the lead-up to the general elections.

The Bawku conflict, rooted in long-standing ethnic and land disputes, has seen sporadic violence over the years, with significant human and economic costs.

Observers have voiced concerns over potential escalation as political dynamics intensify ahead of the elections.

The NDC candidate’s emphasis on professional conduct from security agencies reflects a growing belief that the restoration of peace hinges on transparent and impartial interventions by the state.
