In light of renewed conflicts in Bawku, three parliamentary candidates have taken the significant step of suspending their campaigns to focus on advocating for peace and stability in the region.

Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Zebilla Constituency; Issifu Mahmoud, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Binduri Constituency; and Ebenezer Ndebilla, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Zebilla Constituency, have all paused their election activities, urging the government to prioritize peace and security in Bawku.

Dr. John Kingsley Krugu expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and called for immediate government intervention.

Emphasizing the critical need for a swift and effective response, Dr. Krugu appealed to the government to prioritize the safety of residents, warning that inaction could lead to further instability in Bawku and surrounding areas.

“Should the government fail to act on time, I will take further appropriate steps to protect life and property in the Kusaug Traditional Area (KTA),” Dr. Krugu stated, underscoring his commitment to his constituents’ well-being.

Issifu Mahmoud of the NDC also called for restraint and professionalism from security forces involved in peacekeeping efforts.

“We call on the security agencies to demonstrate professionalism in their efforts to maintain peace and order,” Mahmoud said, stressing the importance of a balanced approach by security personnel to prevent further escalation.

Ebenezer Ndebilla, the NDC candidate for the Zebilla Constituency, echoed these concerns and called for vigilance from both local and international stakeholders to monitor the government’s response to the conflict.

The ongoing conflict in Bawku has disrupted daily life, causing hardships for residents and raising security concerns across the region. With the suspension of their campaigns, all three candidates hope to draw national attention to the urgent need for conflict resolution and peace restoration in Bawku.

As election season approaches, they expressed that without peace, the safety and prosperity of their constituents remain uncertain.
