Solomon George, Chairman of the Upper East Region-based pressure group Narrative Changers, has voiced concerns about the priorities of contemporary Ghanaian politicians.

Speaking on A1 Radio, George drew a sharp comparison between modern-day politicians and their predecessors, asserting that today’s leaders prioritize personal wealth and luxury over the progress of their constituencies.

“Politicians today want to acquire wealth, make money, and send their children to elite private schools, neglecting development. Unlike the politicians of the past, they’ve lost focus on true constituency advancement,” George stated during a radio discussion titled *Evolving the Political Landscape and Youth Impact: Where Does the Future of Constituency Development Lie?*

According to George, this shift in political priorities is partly due to the attitude of today’s youth. He observed that many young people are not holding their leaders accountable, which has allowed this culture of self-enrichment to flourish.

“Youth nowadays don’t demand much accountability from these politicians, and that is why they get away with such behavior,” he remarked, urging young people to take a more active role in ensuring that elected officials deliver on their promises.

George’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among some constituents who feel disconnected from the benefits of development despite the promises made during election campaigns.

He emphasized that in the past, politicians were more focused on community development, building infrastructure, and expanding educational opportunities, often making personal sacrifices to uplift their communities.

In contrast, he noted, many current politicians seem more interested in acquiring personal assets, which he believes is a distraction from their core responsibilities.

Narrative Changers, a grassroots organization focused on promoting transparency and accountability in politics, is now mobilizing youth across the region to drive change. Through public forums and civic education, the group aims to foster a culture of accountability and encourage the younger generation to demand integrity and development-focused leadership from those in power.
