Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited has officially commissioned the Namdini Gold Project in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. The mine, which is expected to produce five million ounces of gold over a 15-year lifespan through surface mining, is Ghana’s largest single gold stream mine and a testament to Ghana’s expanding mining sector.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who commissioned the project said the project marks yet another significant milestone towards the realization of the vision to make Ghana the mining hub of Africa, where all mining and mining-related activities, from exploration to downstream production, and research to innovation would be centered. President Akufo-Addo expressed optimism that the commissioning of the project will create opportunities for the growth of Talensi, the Upper East Region, and Ghana as a whole.

“As we commission this Mine, and pour its first gold, we are fulfilling our commitment to creating a brighter future for the people of Ghana, including Talensi and its environments. It will create jobs, foster local development, and contribute significantly to both the local and national economy. It will bring about a transformative change in this area, providing opportunities for growth and development that will benefit generations to come. It will, also, lead to developments in local infrastructure, including roads, utilities, and community facilities,” he stated.

He said the government is committed to supporting Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited, a subsidiary of a Chinese mining firm, Shandong Gold Group in its plan to construct an airport in Bolgatanga. “I am informed of the commitment of the company to construct an airport in Bolgatanga, to aid their mining operations, and serve the needs of the people of the Upper East Region. Government is ready to provide all the necessary support to the company in this project, which will, undoubtedly, enhance the quality of life for local residents and support broader regional development,” he added.

His Excellency, Tong Defa, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Ghana said the commissioning of the Namdini Gold Project with a total investment of $ 1.1 billion will strengthen the China-Ghana relationship. “The commissioning of this project testifies how two countries have been enjoying deep and enduring friendship,” he stated.

Shandong Gold Group CEO, Mr. Han Yaodong shared his excitement over the project’s launch, attributing its success to the support of Ghanaian government officials, local communities, and project partners. He expressed appreciation for the trust extended by the Ghanaian people, describing it as the foundation upon which deeper collaboration will be built.

Mr. Tang Zhenjiang, Chairman and CEO of Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited gave an assurance that the company has been engaging the locals in a larger share of its workforce and will continue to do more.
