At the recently concluded 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration, held in the Kasena Nankana West District in the Upper East Region, Chiravero Addah James, a physically challenged farmer, was recognized as the Best Disability Farmer of the Year.
Mr. Chiravero, known for his dedication to mixed cropping, has proven that physical limitations need not hinder success.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Chiravero expressed his passion for farming, which he has embraced as a business.
“There are so many ways of killing the cat,” he said. “My condition will not impede my dreams and vision.”
His inspiring message encouraged other physically challenged individuals to disregard societal stigmatization and have confidence in their abilities.
“We can achieve anything we put our minds to,” he added, emphasizing the importance of self-belief and resilience in overcoming barriers.
In recognition of his hard work and perseverance, Mr. Chiravero received a range of farming tools and supplies, including a pair of gloves, a knapsack sprayer, a cloth, 5 liters of chemicals, three bags of fertilizer, two cutlasses, and two pairs of Wellington boots.
These resources will aid him in his future endeavors and enhance his productivity on the farm.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mohammed Bukari, the District Director of Agriculture, encouraged others to adopt farming as a viable business model, underscoring the sector’s potential for growth.
He shared optimistic data on crop production in the district, noting significant increases in yield for most crops, except for rice and millet.
“The data collected and analyzed indicate that crop production indicators in terms of net domestic production and per capita consumption in the Kasena Nankana West District reflect a positive outlook on the food balance sheet for major crops heading into 2025,” Mr. Bukari said.
