Dr. Nadia Adongo Fynn, Deputy Director in Charge of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, has taken the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 campaign directly to the markets of the Upper East Region.
She visited multiple locations, including Zuarungu Market and Timber Market in Bolgatanga East Constituency, as well as the Cattle Market, Goat/Sheep Market, and New Bolga Market in Bolgatanga Central Constituency. During these visits, Dr. Nadia distributed NPP-branded shirts and scarves to traders and engaged them in discussions on the party’s policies.
“Today, the Zuarungu chief is a paramount chief because of the government of President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia. I wanted to let the market women know that and also inform them of the importance of the social interventions we have brought to this country, like Free SHS. A government that believes in education and social intervention is what I want my people to know,” she stated.
Dr. Fynn explained that the purpose of the visits was to promote the government’s social intervention programs and initiatives. She highlighted the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, emphasizing its impact on the lives of constituents. She encouraged voters in the region to support the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as NPP parliamentary candidates, to ensure continuity in development-focused governance.
“Mathew Silas Amoah from Bolga East is someone who cares about service to humanity, and I am happy to support and encourage his message. It was the NPP government that constructed the cattle market in Bolga, and I want to tell them that, in this year’s election, they should vote for Figo for Bolga Central, Alibo for Talensi, Charles for Nabdam, and Madam Diana for Bongo,” she added.
Dr. Fynn was accompanied by notable NPP members, including former Upper East Regional Minister Rockson Bukari, regional executives, and Mathew Silas Amoah, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga East Constituency. Mr. Bukari argued that Bolgatanga’s underdevelopment is linked to residents’ long-standing support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a party he claimed has neglected the municipality’s growth. Similarly, Mathew Silas Amoah expressed disappointment in the NDC’s influence across Upper East constituencies like Bolgatanga Central, Bolgatanga East, Nabdam, Talensi, and Bongo, stating that the party has not met the expectations of its supporters.
At the Zuarungu Market, Esther Agengre, a vegetable trader, shared her preference for the NPP candidate Mathew Silas Amoah due to his humility. “I listen to the MP frequently on the radio, and he is always insulting Mathew and some members of the constituency. For instance, I listened to him after he launched his campaign, and he mentioned that he had attained higher education than Mathew. But what does higher education have to do with serving humanity? That remark is derogatory not only to Mathew but also to us, the illiterates in the constituency,” she stated.
