The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Fawzia Yakubu Abagnamah, has spearheaded an initiative to train 50 women in soap-making as part of efforts to empower women economically in the Bolgatanga East constituency.
The training brought together women from communities such as Pologo, Gambibgo, and Dubila. It was organized in collaboration with the NDC Ladies Force, in line with the party’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and women’s development.
Speaking to the media during the event, Madam Fawzia explained the rationale behind the initiative. “This training seeks to equip our women with practical skills to enable them to become self-sufficient and better support their families. Empowering women is central to our vision, as outlined in the NDC’s manifesto, particularly through the establishment of the Women Development Bank, which aims to provide financial and capacity-building support to women across the country,” she said.
Madam Fawzia urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training and extend it to other women in their communities. “We want to create a ripple effect. If each woman here today teaches another woman, we can uplift the entire constituency. Let this be the start of something transformative for our communities,” she added.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the training, emphasizing the impact it will have on their lives. “I am very thankful to Madam Fawzia and the NDC Ladies Force for this opportunity. Learning how to make soap will help me start a small business to support my children,” said Comfort Akolgo.
Another participant, Mavis Anaba, added, “This training has opened my eyes to new possibilities. I planned to travel to Kumasi to do menial jobs but for this training, I have been equipped enough to create a job for myself and stay in this constituency.”
