The Bawku East Small Scale Farmers Association Rural Bank (BESSFA) has commemorated its 40th anniversary with the donation of five key projects to communities across the Upper East and North-East Regions.
These initiatives, valued at over GH¢400,000, underscore the bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development.
The projects include: a, mechanized borehole for the Pusiga Fire Service Station, a three-unit classroom block for Tankpasi Methodist Basic School in Garu, a refurbished physics laboratory for Tempane Senior High School, a renovated office complex for the Ghana National Ambulance Service and the Ghana Fire Service in Nakpanduri and a hand-pump borehole for the Kpemale community in the Bunkprugu-Yunyoo District.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Hayatu-Deen Awudu Ibrahim, CEO of BESSFA Rural Bank, emphasized the significance of the initiative: “These projects represent our gratitude to the communities that have supported our bank. They are investments in future leaders and symbols of our commitment to social progress,” he stated.
Tackling Longstanding Challenges
Assistant Division Officer Ayariga Patrick Jonathan of the Pusiga Fire Service Station lauded the bank for the mechanized borehole, noting its impact on the station’s operations.
“Previously, we relied on a distant dam for water, often facing accessibility challenges, especially during the rainy season. This intervention has eliminated a major operational challenge, ensuring our readiness to respond to emergencies,” he said.
At Tankpasi Methodist Basic School, Headmaster Akurubila Hamza Patrick expressed relief over the new classroom block, highlighting the struggles of teaching under trees.
“This facility will reduce absenteeism, boost student morale, and create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning,” he stated. He also called on the government to absorb the school, which has a student population exceeding 200.
Sustaining the Impact
Board Chairman of BESSFA, Mr. Cletus Azaabi, encouraged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities to ensure their longevity.
“These facilities are meant to serve the community for years. Proper care will ensure they achieve their intended purposes,” he advised.
Recognition for Excellence
The celebration coincides with BESSFA Rural Bank winning the Best Outstanding Customer Service Award (Rural Bank Category) at the 2024 Ghana Accountancy and Finance Awards, further cementing its reputation for excellence in service delivery.
BESSFA Rural Bank’s 40th anniversary serves as a testament to its enduring legacy of fostering development and improving livelihoods in the regions it operates.
