Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, the Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, has vowed to ensure that the party delivers on its promises to the people following its successful sweep of all 15 parliamentary seats in the region during the recent general elections.
“There’s one thing I want to assure the people of the Upper East. We are part of the NDC. We’ll make sure that what was promised to us, we’ll follow up to get it,” he said.
In a recent interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Salifu emphasized the party’s commitment to addressing key developmental issues in the region, acknowledging that the people of Upper East have consistently voted for the NDC not out of mere allegiance but due to the tangible progress the party has brought to the area over the years.
He highlighted the extension of electricity to several communities as one of the party’s significant achievements, noting that such advancements would not have been possible without the NDC.
“The people keep voting for the NDC not because they were born NDC. Not at all. Nobody was just born NDC,” he remarked.
However, Mr. Salifu also highlighted the need for further development, particularly in infrastructure and health care. He assured residents that the NDC would continue to push for critical projects, such as converting the regional hospital into a teaching hospital and completing the long-awaited Bolgatanga-Bawku road. Additionally, he pledged to ensure the establishment of a new training college in the Bonaboto area to improve educational opportunities.
“But we are lacking in terms of some structures in the Upper East Region, and we shall fight for it. As for the conversion of our regional hospital into a teaching hospital, we’ll fight for it. As for the building of the airport, we’ll definitely fight for it. The completion of the Bolga-Bawku road—we will not just say soon, but we’ll make sure that the road is completed. We’ll ensure that the hospital we promised to build in the Bawku enclave to serve as a referral hospital is constructed for them,” he pledged.
Looking ahead to the 2028 elections, the NDC official expressed confidence that if these major projects are successfully completed, the people of Upper East would be inclined to offer the NDC even greater support in future polls.
“These are monumental projects, and if we are able to accomplish them, in 2028, I think the people of the Upper East, if there’s an opportunity to give us more than 15 seats, they will,” he concluded.
