Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, is confident that the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) is supported by the 1992 Constitution.
Mr. Ayariga referenced Article 41(f) of the 1992 Constitution, which states: “The exercise and enjoyment of rights and freedoms is inseparable from the performance of duties and obligations, and accordingly, it shall be the duty of every citizen—(f) to protect and preserve public property and expose and combat misuse and waste of public funds and property.”
He added, “If a citizen decides to set up a committee to receive evidence of instances of looting of public property and waste of resources, is it not to provide an avenue for compliance with this constitutional provision? Is that not what it is?”
Mr. Ayariga further compared ORAL to a recent security operation run by the National Security Ministry, stating, “How different is it from ‘See Something, Say Something?’”
“If you see looting, say it. If you see stealing, say it,” he emphasized.
