President John Mahama’s nominee for Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has pledged to prioritize socioeconomic development and youth empowerment as core objectives, aligning with the values of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an exclusive interview with our reporter, Moses Apiah, Mr. Akamugri assured the region’s residents of his dedication to addressing key challenges and driving development.
“I will work tirelessly to ensure the government delivers the necessary development to the Upper East Region,” he affirmed.
Addressing critics of his appointment, Mr. Akamugri expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I pray that God will strengthen me to prove doubters wrong by implementing impactful projects and programs that will transform the region.”
A seasoned politician, Mr. Akamugri holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Regional Secretary for the NDC in the Upper East Region. He also possesses a Master’s degree in Human Rights and a Bachelor of Education in Social Studies and Mathematics from the University of Education, Winneba.
Beyond his academic credentials, Mr. Akamugri has extensive experience in governance and administration. He previously served as the Coordinator of the National School Feeding Programme and as Presiding Member of the Bongo District Assembly, roles that have provided him with valuable insights into public service and grassroots development.
As one of ten regional ministerial nominees announced by President John Mahama, Mr. Akamugri joins a team tasked with advancing the government’s development agenda at the regional level.
The Upper East Region, known for its agricultural potential and youthful population, continues to face persistent challenges such as infrastructure deficits, unemployment, and underdevelopment. Stakeholders are optimistic that Mr. Akamugri’s leadership will address these issues effectively.
