Peter Ayinbisa, the Upper East Regional Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed strong support for Hon. Donatus Akamugre Atanga following his nomination as the Regional Minister.
He congratulated Hon. Akamugre and highlighted their long history of working together, dating back to their time at the Bongo District Assembly in the mid-2000s.
“I worked with him in the Bongo District Assembly around 2005/2006. That was my first entry into the assembly as an assembly member,” Mr. Ayimbisa recalled.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayinbisa described Hon. Akamugre as a diligent and meticulous individual, emphasizing his deep-rooted traditional values and thorough understanding of the region. He praised his extensive experience, particularly his 30 years with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which he said provided a unique perspective on the political landscape.
According to Mr. Ayinbisa, Hon. Akamugre’s familiarity with both government and opposition dynamics across the region positions him as an ideal candidate to drive development and address the region’s needs.
“I worked closely with him, and I know how diligent and meticulous he is. He’s a fine gentleman and a deep-rooted traditionalist,” Mr. Ayimbisa stated. “Akamugre is the perfect man. No other person can fit the position he’s been nominated for. I’m saying this because he’s someone who knows the ins and outs of the NDC political party. He has lived almost his entire life working for the NDC.”
He further added, “Thirty years working for the NDC means he has devoted his entire life to the party, and he also knows the ins and outs of this region because, as a regional secretary, he has moved around the entire region both in government and in opposition.”
Peter Ayinbisa noted that despite being overlooked for roles such as District Chief Executive (DCE) and parliamentary candidate by the previous NDC administration, Hon. Akamugre’s efforts have now been recognized, with his nomination marking a significant achievement.
“The last John Mahama administration was not fair to him. The last NDC government, in general, was not fair to him,” Mr. Ayinbisa remarked.
The NPP Communications Director believes that Hon. Akamugre is well-equipped to succeed in his new role as Regional Minister, though he acknowledged the challenges of following in the footsteps of successful predecessors. He emphasized that expectations will be high, and if the nominee does not meet them, he may face difficulties during his tenure.
“I believe he will succeed if he works hard,” Mr. Ayinbisa asserted. “Akamugre is now being challenged because you’ve had your senior brothers there who did well, and so you have to do better than they did. There’s a benchmark already, so if he doesn’t do well, he will have challenges.”
However, Mr. Ayinbisa pointed out that Hon. Akamugre will face immense pressure from the people of the region, particularly NDC supporters, who may expect him to achieve extraordinary results. He also noted that Hon. Akamugre’s deep knowledge of chieftaincy and tradition could help him address ongoing issues in the Bawku area and contribute to restoring peace there.
“The people of this region will expect Donatus to perform magic, which he cannot do. That’s where he’s going to face challenges,” Mr. Ayinbisa cautioned. “Regarding the Bawku area, I suspect that he should be able to resolve the issues because of his in-depth knowledge of chieftaincy and tradition. He should be able to help restore peace completely to Bawku.”
