The HEARD Project partners, under the Norsaac-funded governance and leadership initiative “Heard Everywhere and Represented Daily” (HEARD), have extended their warm congratulations to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on their historic election and inauguration as President and Vice President of Ghana, respectively.
In a statement, the consortium of NGOs from the Upper East, Upper West, and Northern Regions expressed gratitude to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President Mahama for their confidence in Ghanaian women, a decision which resonated with the electorate and resulted in one of the most decisive victories of the 4th Republic.
The inauguration of Professor Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s first female Vice President, was hailed as a milestone in the country’s history, marking significant progress in fostering diversity and inclusion in leadership roles.
The statement urged the new government to leverage this historic achievement by promoting greater representation of women, youth, and individuals with disabilities in leadership positions. The group highlighted opportunities in appointments such as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, as well as in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
“We believe this government will usher in a new era of inclusion, ensuring traditionally marginalized and underrepresented groups are given platforms to contribute significantly to national development,” the statement read.
The HEARD partners acknowledged President Mahama’s history of promoting inclusivity, citing the appointment of Dr. Henry Seidu Daanaa, a visually impaired person, as Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs during his previous administration. They expressed confidence that this legacy would continue with further appointments of youth and marginalized groups in key government roles.
The consortium, which includes organizations like RISE-Ghana, Songtaba, SAVE-Ghana, NOYED, CSIF, and ITA, reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively with the government to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion remain central to Ghana’s development agenda.
The statement concluded with optimism that the leadership of President Mahama and Vice President Opoku-Agyemang would drive the country toward a more inclusive and representative governance structure.
