Peter Ayinbisa, the Upper East Regional Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has acknowledged the resignation of his deputy, Andrew Atariwini, and expressed gratitude for his nearly two years of dedicated service.
He praised Mr. Atariwini’s commitment and willingness to support both himself and the party. “I’ve gladly received his resignation, and I want to thank him very much for the support he has given me and the party over the past two years.”
While confirming that Mr. Atariwini’s resignation was due to personal reasons, Mr. Ayinbisa emphasized that it was not related to any internal party issues or the outcome of the 2024 general elections.
He clarified that Mr. Atariwini had stepped down from his role in the communications team but remained an active member of the party. “He resigned from the communications team but not from the party; that should be made very clear.”
Mr. Ayinbisa, however, refrained from discussing the specific reasons for the resignation, explaining that Mr. Atariwini had not granted permission to disclose those details.
He also addressed the nature of the deputy Communications Director position, pointing out that the role is not part of the party’s official constitution. He noted that the party may consider formalizing the position in the future.
“You know, the deputy Communications Director position is not constitutional. It’s not in our party’s constitution, so when that got wider publicity, the national office called me.”
Mr. Ayinbisa added that any successor in his position would have the discretion to decide whether assistance is needed. However, he stressed that such appointments should be handled privately to avoid the public spectacle seen in recent years. “I think moving forward, we must respect the constitution.
There’s no deputy role officially, so we need to abide by that. But whoever takes over from me will have to decide if they need assistance, and if they do, it should not be made public like it has been over the past eight years.”
Meanwhile, when questioned about his future involvement in the party’s leadership, Mr. Ayinbisa stated that he had not yet considered contesting elections or pursuing other roles. He said he would need to reflect on recent developments before making any decisions about his future within the NPP. “As it is now, I don’t have any thoughts about it yet—not even about contesting elections. I’ll need to reflect on what has happened in the past and then decide on the way forward.”
