Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, the Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized that while the Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, remains affiliated with his party, he must prioritize his role as the head of the region above his party position.

He noted that although Mr. Akamugri’s party affiliation remains, there needs to be a clear distinction between his political responsibilities and his duties as the Regional Minister.

“It does not mean that he has to completely leave his party, but there is a distinction now. He has to comply and work as the head of the region while sometimes fulfilling his role as a political leader.”

In an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Salifu stressed that the Regional Minister should focus on what is beneficial for the region, setting aside party lines when making decisions that will contribute to the development of the Upper East Region. He expressed confidence in the new minister’s approach to governance and noted that it is crucial to support Mr. Akamugri’s efforts to bring positive change to the region.

“Whatever will bring benefit to the region, whatever will bring positive development to individuals, you do it—regardless of who is there.”

Mr. Salifu further expressed optimism about Mr. Akamugri’s leadership and urged the public to support the new regional minister as he takes on the challenge of advancing the region’s development.

“I am happy with the way he intends to run the administration. I think we only have to pray for him and support him.”
