With less than 24 hours remaining before the election for the Upper East Region’s Council of State seat, Elias Ayinbila Apasiya, the Assembly Member for the Sumbrungu Azorebisi Electoral Area, has intensified his campaign efforts, urging delegates to support his bid.

Mr. Apasiya, who also serves as the National Chairman of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) for Technical Universities in Ghana, is positioning himself as a voice for grassroots communities. He promises to amplify their concerns and promote inclusive governance.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Apasiya emphasized the need for diversity in the Council of State, arguing that the position should not be monopolized by a specific social class.

“If given the mandate, my election will be a testament to social growth and inclusiveness. It will not be the usual scenario where only a certain class of people contest for such a position,” he stated.

His campaign is centered on a bottom-up approach to development, ensuring that national policies, including the proposed 24-Hour Economy policy, directly benefit the people of the Upper East Region.

Mr. Apasiya highlighted the region’s developmental challenges and pledged to advocate for policies that address these issues.

“The region has numerous developmental challenges, and as a representative, I will work towards policies and decisions that bring the needed benefits to the people,” he added.

A seasoned academic and community leader, Mr. Apasiya holds a BA in Information Studies and Psychology from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Information Technology from KNUST, and is currently a final-year PhD candidate at CKT-UTAS.

His extensive leadership experience includes serving as the Regional Vice Chairman of TEWU in the Upper East Region, Local Chairman of TEWU at Bolgatanga Technical University, and an eight-year tenure as a Governing Council Member of the institution.

Additionally, he runs the Light of Hope Foundation, a community-based NGO in Sumbrungu, Bolgatanga Municipality.

Mr. Apasiya is contesting against seven other candidates.
