Award-winning journalist Albert Sore has emphasized the crucial role of radio and journalism in addressing climate change and environmental protection. He expressed concern over the limited media coverage of climate-related issues, particularly in the Upper East Region, and called for greater dedication to environmental reporting.
Speaking on A1 Radio as part of World Radio Day 2025, which is themed Radio and Climate Change, Mr. Sore highlighted that despite the global urgency of climate change, media outlets in the region and across the country often prioritize political discussions, leaving little room for environmental topics.
He stressed that while many believe political content is what attracts public attention, neglecting climate issues is a missed opportunity.
“People think politics is what sells, but that’s not the case,” he stated. “With all these things happening, where is the space to actually address climate change?”
According to him, only a few media outlets have made a concerted effort to prioritize climate change education, and this needs to change. He called for more programming dedicated to environmental issues, urging both media houses and individuals to take an active role in raising awareness and inspiring action to safeguard the planet’s future.
“I don’t think we are doing enough,” he said. “We need to do more—we need more segments, more discussions, and more people concerned about climate change talking about it.”
