Dr. Nicholas Zangina, a member of the Upper East Regional Communications team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized the need for curriculum reform to better integrate technology into classrooms and Ghana’s education system as a whole.

Speaking on A1 Radio, he outlined key areas that require urgent attention to improve the quality of education in the country. He pointed out that many schools in local communities still rely on outdated teaching methods, such as chalk and blackboards, which hinder students’ progress in an increasingly digital world. He called for an upgrade of teaching tools and materials to better equip students for the future.

“I think there’s a need for curriculum reform to integrate technology into our education system,” he stated.

Additionally, Dr. Zangina stressed the importance of strengthening teacher-retention policies, highlighting the growing shortage of qualified and skilled teachers in Ghana. He advocated for a more focused approach, suggesting that teachers be allowed to specialize in the subjects they were trained in rather than being required to teach outside their areas of expertise. He believes this would lead to better student outcomes and overall improvement in education quality.

“Aside from that, we need to strengthen teacher-retention policies in our educational system. The shortage of qualified and skilled teachers in our institutions must be addressed,” he noted.

His remarks come as Ghana hosts a national education forum, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss solutions for building a more effective and sustainable education system.
