A group known as Friends of Prosper has donated a 50-kilowatt power generator plant to the Muslim community in the Upper East Region to support activities at the Upper East Regional Central Mosque.

The donation is expected to help address the persistent challenge of unreliable electricity supply that has, over the years, disrupted prayers and other activities at the mosque.

The Upper East Regional Central Mosque serves as a major hub of worship for Muslims across the 15 Municipal and District Assemblies in the region, attracting hundreds of worshippers daily for prayers, Islamic gatherings, and special religious events.

Frequent power outages in the region have not only affected businesses and livelihoods but have also disrupted prayer sessions at the mosque, especially during evening and night prayers when electricity is required to power lighting systems and the public address system.

The newly donated generator is therefore expected to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the mosque and improve the comfort and convenience of worshippers.

Presenting the generator on behalf of the group, Ayariga Isaac Atindaana said the donation formed part of efforts by the group to support religious activities and promote unity among communities.

“In the presence of our revered Regional Chief Imam, it is a privilege. As Friends of Prosper, we are always happy to come before him for his blessing,” he stated.

Mr. Atindaana explained that the generator had the capacity to power the entire mosque facility even if air conditioners were installed in the future.

“This is a 50-kilowatt power generator that can power the entire mosque even if air conditions are installed in it. We are happy to do this presentation because we believe in religious diversity,” he said.

According to him, the donation was made on behalf of the Executive Member of the group, Prosper Ayinbila Awuni, who could not be present at the ceremony.

“We are doing this on behalf of our Executive Member, Prosper Ayinbila Awuni, who is today not here with us, but he is with us in spirit and prayers,” he added.

Mr. Atindaana noted that the gesture was also part of the group’s efforts to celebrate Eid al-Adha with the Muslim community in the region.

He expressed hope that the generator would go a long way to improve activities at the mosque and enhance daily worship.

Receiving the generator, the Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Yussif Imam Umar, expressed gratitude to the donors and described the gesture as unprecedented.

“We thank him very much. We are over excited, the entire Muslim community, because this is the first time we have seen it,” he said.

The Chief Imam indicated that the donation would significantly improve operations at the mosque and ease the burden caused by erratic power supply.

He also offered prayers for Prosper Ayinbila Awuni and members of the Friends of Prosper group for supporting the Muslim community.

“Even before the presentation, the Almighty Allah has already answered your prayers. So what our brother Prosper Ayinbila Awuni longs for, we pray to the Almighty Allah should make it easy for him,” he stated.

The donation has been welcomed by members of the Muslim community, many of whom believe the generator will ensure uninterrupted prayers and religious activities at the Regional Central Mosque.
