The President of the Talensi Traditional Council and Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugblisong Nanlebegtang, has challenged the management of Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) to prioritize the institution’s potential and explore revenue-generating opportunities.

Speaking at the university’s 25th-anniversary celebration, Tongraan advised management to leverage the university’s technical programs to secure contracts for students to manufacture furniture and undertake handicraft jobs for government and private institutions.

According to Tongraan, the university can lobby both private and public institutions to secure contracts for furniture production, thereby generating revenue.

“I think that as a technical institution, you can generate revenue by ensuring that you use your workshops to produce equipment for sale. If you are good at lobbying, you can engage the Ministry of Education to award you contracts for producing tables and chairs for schools,” he stated.

As the university faces a pressing need for improved infrastructure, the Paramount Chief expressed his full support in helping BTU secure the necessary facilities by lobbying mining companies in the region.

As a special guest at the event, speaking on the theme “25 Years of Sustainable TVET Development: Journeying to Technological Advancement,” the Chief Executive Officer of Blue Sky Hotel, Commissioner of Police (Rtd.) Patrick Akolgo, called for greater support for technical-oriented institutions in the country.

COP Akolgo, who also runs a construction company, emphasized that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is the way forward in creating sustainable jobs and fostering national development.
