The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has nominated Roland Atanga Ayoo as the next Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), pending approval.
Born on June 25, 1972, Mr. Ayoo is a native of Zaare in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.
Roland Atanga Ayoo holds a B.A. (Honours) Degree in History and Information Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon. He also holds a Diploma in Library Studies from the same university and a Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ from Gbeweah Training College, Pusiga.
Mr. Ayoo is one of the most experienced politicians in the region, having worked for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bolgatanga Central constituency since 1998.
Despite being a Communication Team Member of the NDC since 2000, Mr. Ayoo served as the Deputy Constituency Secretary between 2001 and 2005.
He became the Constituency Secretary for the Bolgatanga Constituency from 2005 to 2014 and again from 2018 to 2022. Mr. Ayoo was not only the Campaign Coordinator for the NDC in the Bolgatanga Constituency during the 2012 general election, but he has also served as the Presidential and Parliamentary lead campaigner in four major elections in the constituency: 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024.
The yet-to-be-approved MCE was the person who coined the NDC party slogan in the 2008 election in the Bolgatanga constituency. Mr. Ayoo is expected to receive overwhelming endorsement, as assembly members may see him as one of their own, considering that he was a member of the Assembly between 2009 and 2012.
The MCE nominee describes himself as “a leader with passion and commitment.”
Roland Atanga Ayoo is expected to address many challenges facing the municipality once approved by the Assembly Members.
