The International Women’s Hope Centre (IWHC), in its quest to foster economic independence among women, has successfully trained forty-three (43) women in liquid soap making. The training program, held in Madina, a suburb of the Bongo District in the Upper East Region, equipped participants with essential skills and knowledge to produce high-quality liquid soap — providing them with the opportunity to start their own businesses.
The initiative primarily targeted women, particularly nursing mothers, with the goal of creating sustainable income sources and enhancing financial stability in their households. Addressing the participants before the training session, the Director of IWHC, Madam Gladys Anayem, emphasized the importance of women’s economic empowerment as a key driver of family and community transformation.
“We are happy to provide this opportunity to the women of Madina. We believe that economic empowerment is key to unlocking the potential of women, and we are committed to supporting them in their endeavors. We also believe that when a woman is economically empowered, she helps make the home a better place for her children and husband,” Madam Anayem said.
The training was well received by participants, who expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the initiative. Many women highlighted how the program had opened their eyes to new entrepreneurial possibilities.
One of the beneficiaries, Lamisi, shared her excitement about the opportunity, stating,
“This training has opened my eyes to the possibility of starting my own business. I am happy to begin soap-making and provide for my family.”
Beyond the hands-on skills training, the program also included discussions on financial literacy and business management, aimed at equipping the women with the necessary knowledge to effectively market and sell their products.
The International Women’s Hope Centre reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women in the community through continuous skills development programs.
