“Don’t blame party leaders” – Salahudeen on NPP’s 2024 election defeat

Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahudeen Musah, has defended his role in the party’s 2024 election campaign, stating that responsibility for the party’s loss should not rest solely on the shoulders of executives.

In a post-election reflection on A1 radio, the NPP Youth organizer argued that campaign outcomes should be assessed based on individual contributions rather than generalizing blame. He maintained that every member involved in the campaign had a specific role to play, and accountability should be viewed through that lens. “It’s not just about “all of you should be asked”. It is about “what did you do,” he said.

He emphasized that he executed his duties with dedication and effectiveness, pointing to the appreciation he received from parliamentary candidates across the region as evidence of his efforts. According to him, many candidates publicly acknowledged his support and hard work even after the election.

“I have executed my duty diligently beyond any doubt that may even exist in your mind. That is why after the election, parliamentary candidates were out there on Facebook, on other platforms, thanking me for what I did for them.”

He drew comparisons to past election losses by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), noting that similar defeats did not lead to blanket blame on the party’s leadership. Instead, Mr Musah stressed the importance of evaluating performance based on the specific actions of individuals during the campaign.

“It’s not the failure of executives because when you look at the generality, it’s about what was your role in the campaign. If you say that the executives should be asked, then it means that the NDC should have asked John Dramani Mahama long ago because he was a lead person in the election when they lost in 2016, lost in 2020.”
