Former Member of Parliament for Binduri in the Upper East Region, Abdulai Abanga, has made a heartfelt appeal for calm, following the recent wave of violence and unrest in the Kusaug area that has claimed the lives of innocent women and children.

In a statement addressing the tragic incident in Binguri within the Binduri District, Mr. Abanga strongly condemned what he described as the “senseless killing” of innocent civilians, urging all parties to prioritize peace and humanity.

“I urge everyone to exercise calm and restraint,” he said. “I extend my deepest sympathies to the families affected by this horrific event.”

He expressed concern that the violence was beginning to assume a reprisal nature, posing the risk of further escalation into neighboring communities. He called on all actors involved to refrain from inflammatory language, lay down their arms, and support peacebuilding efforts.

He emphasized the need for a balanced approach by the authorities, urging the government to reconsider the curfew and motorcycle ban imposed in Binduri. According to him, while such measures are intended to maintain order, they also hinder residents’ ability to engage in economic activities and meet their basic needs.

“The restrictions, though necessary in part, have brought untold hardships and increased vulnerability among already struggling communities,” he said.

While praising the efforts of security agencies to stabilize the region, the former MP appealed for intensified action to prevent further bloodshed and restore normalcy. He noted that the current security interventions must be both proactive and people-centered to build trust and maintain long-term peace.

Mr. Abanga also made a passionate plea for collective support of the Otumfuo-led mediation process, a high-level intervention aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict and fostering reconciliation.

“All stakeholders must commit to the Otumfuo-led efforts,” he urged. “It is only through genuine dialogue and unity that we can build sustainable peace.”
