The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Upper East Region has confirmed the safety of sachet water produced in the region.

According to Abel Ndego, the Upper East Regional Head of the FDA, the authority is working diligently to ensure compliance with safety standards, allowing consumers to drink sachet water without concern. Mr. Ndego revealed that a significant majority of sachet water producers in the region—approximately 98 to 99 percent—meet the basic minimum requirements for operational facilities.

This high compliance rate, he said, is a testament to the FDA’s effective regulatory oversight and the industry’s commitment to producing safe products. According to Mr. Ndego, the safety of sachet water, aside from addressing health-related concerns, also boosts consumer confidence in the products.

“People have been skeptical about the quality of water and are not too sure whether they are drinking safe water or not, but as an authority, I would want to use this platform to assure the people of the region that, on the whole, the sachet water in circulation is safe. In fact, I can say 98 to 99 percent meets at least the basic minimum requirements for a facility to be operational,” he stated.

Mr. Ndego made this known to the media during a training workshop for sachet water producers in Bolgatanga, aimed at educating them on good manufacturing practices.

He further assured the public that the FDA is doing everything possible to ensure that factories remain compliant, allowing people to drink water without doubts.

“So I can assure the public that the FDA is doing everything possible to make sure that they remain in compliance, and people can drink water without looking behind their backs,” he emphasized.

The FDA boss also urged the public to report any suspected issues with sachet water to the authority for prompt action.
