Suspended NDC Branch Chairman for Gorogo Polling Station describes suspension as unjust, unfair

The embattled National Democratic Congress (NDC) Branch Chairman for the Gorogo Polling Station in the Talensi Constituency, Mr. Charles King Luu, has broken his silence over his recent suspension by the party, describing it as unjust, unfounded, and a violation of procedural fairness.

Mr. Luu cited Articles 19 and 23 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, alongside Article 46(1) of the NDC Constitution, arguing that the suspension breached principles of due process and natural justice.

He emphasized that key legal doctrines such as “Audi Alteram Partem” — the right to be heard — and “Nemo Judex in Causa Sua” — the rule against bias — were overlooked.

Suspended on April 21, 2025, following a petition whose details remain undisclosed to him, Mr. Luu expressed grave concern about the lack of transparency.
He argued that he was neither furnished with a copy of the petition nor granted the opportunity to respond, thereby undermining his fundamental rights.

“The principles of fairness demand that no one should be condemned without a hearing,” Mr. Luu said. “Unfortunately, I was denied this basic right.”

He further noted that according to Article 46 of the NDC Constitution, suspension is a punitive measure that must be applied under reasonable and verifiable circumstances — not arbitrarily or vindictively.

However, reacting to Mr. Luu’s claims, the Talensi Constituency Communications Officer, Mr. Nangena Michael, maintained that the party followed due process before arriving at the decision to suspend the branch chairman.

“The necessary procedures were duly followed,” Mr. Michael stated, adding that the party remains committed to upholding internal democracy and discipline.

As tensions simmer, the controversy surrounding Mr. Luu’s suspension highlights deeper concerns about internal party democracy and the application of constitutional principles within political parties.
