The former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Builsa South, Mr. Daniel Kwame Gariba, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections to what he described as the “arrogance of power” and the party’s neglect of its grassroots structures.
Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Gariba explained that, over time, those within the party’s inner circle became increasingly difficult to advise, creating a disconnect between the leadership and the party’s base.
According to him, although some party members tried to raise red flags, they were met with resistance, while external assurances from researchers and other institutions gave a false sense of hope for victory.
“It became difficult to advise those at the top,” he stated. “We ignored the feelings on the ground and relied too much on predictions that didn’t reflect the true picture.”
Despite the loss, Mr. Gariba noted that the NPP has learned valuable lessons and is determined to restructure, reconnect with the people, and return stronger in future elections. He expressed optimism about the party’s resilience and its continued commitment to national development.
On the question of party unity, especially concerning members who broke away, Mr. Gariba said reconciliation is not only possible but necessary.
“Why not accept them back?” he asked. “They still have the party at heart, and unity is crucial if we are to rebuild.”
Mr. Gariba’s comments come at a time when the NPP is facing internal calls for reform and healing following the party’s electoral performance.
