The Sirigu Traditional Council has expressed deep gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Stephen Aeke Akurugo as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Kassena-Nankana West District.

During a press conference held at the Sirigu Palace on Tuesday, a statement on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Sirigu, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III, was delivered by Eden Akurigu, Secretary to the Chief. The statement hailed the appointment as a monumental achievement for the people of Sirigu and a demonstration of President Mahama’s commitment to nurturing young leadership across the country. They mentioned that since the 4th Republic of Ghana, a native of the community has never been elevated to the office of a District Chief Executive.

“We are gathered here today with immense pride to say a big thank you to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for his choice of our esteemed son, Honourable Stephen Aeke Akurugo, to the high office of DCE,” Secretary to Paramount Chief of Sirigu said. “This appointment is not only a recognition of individual merit but also a powerful symbol of hope and inclusion for our community.”

The Traditional Council highlighted Mr. Akurugo’s leadership qualities, describing him as a visionary and dedicated individual capable of spearheading the district’s development. They pledged the full support of the Sirigu community in helping him succeed in his new role.
The Sirigu Traditional Council also acknowledged the government’s continuity in infrastructure projects, commending President Mahama for allowing the completion of the Bost Culvert—a bridge linking Sirigu through Zorkor to Bolgatanga—as well as the ongoing work on the drainage system in the Sirigu market.

“These projects are transforming lives and saving time for travelers and patients being referred to the regional hospital,” Mr. Akurigu noted, adding that the community looks forward to the timely completion of the market drainage works. The Sirigu Traditional Council extended special appreciation to the Upper East Regional Minister, the NDC Regional Chairman and his executives, and traditional authorities across the district for supporting Akurugo’s nomination, which culminated in his successful confirmation a week ago.

The Traditional Council also commended the Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, Nikyema Billa Alamzy for backing the nominee and assured him of strong collaboration in pushing the district’s development agenda.

The traditional council reaffirmed its unwavering support of the people of Sirigu for the DCE and of the Mahama-led administration.

“We are confident that this appointment will yield positive results for the district and beyond. Together, we stand ready to contribute to the success of the government’s development and transformation agenda,” Eden Akurigu, Secretary to the Chief concluded.
The DCE when contacted, described the press conference by the Sirigu Traditional Council and the people to appreciate the president as in “the right direction.”

“Sirigu community is known as a community which has been voting for the NDC party since 1992 and since 1992 up to now, there has not been any District Chief Executive position being nominated from the Sirigu. So the people are happy for the honor done them and I also happy that the president has entrusted that in me,” he stated.

He pledged to work closely with the ministries to improve the road network and agriculture in the district.
