The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not impressed with the current state of affairs in Ghana under the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and John Dramani Mahama.
Further, the NPP is not convinced that there will be anything impressive to be achieved by the current government based on what has been achieved since January 7, 2025.
Nana Akomea, a member of the NPP’s national communication team, made these comments when he spoke to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show.
“The major thing that would define the next election is the performance of the NDC. And I can tell you, it is early days yet but there have been some [indications]. I will just take some issues. Look at the destruction in the country due to galamsey and how it was a big issue. All the things they said they would do about galamsey, they have come on, they are not doing them.”
Mr. Akomea explained that some of the issues going to affect the government’s fight against illegal mining and the general overall performance of the government is the repatriation of Chinese illegal miners.
“They are repatriating Chinese. They condemned us for repatriating Chinese. They are now also using soldiers. They condemned us for using soldiers. They say the president is not the one to blame but when we were in there, they said the president can solve it in one week if he wants to. They said they will ban mining in forest reserves, they have not banned it. They said we were burning excavators, they are now burning excavators. They said we should declare state of emergency, they have not done that,” he said.
Mr. Akomea explained that just in the mining area, the failures of the government are huge. These failures, he said, would soon be seen on a larger scale.
“You wait, we will see about the cedi. We will see about employment. I am telling you, they will not do ‘foko’,” he said.
