The recently confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bolgatanga East District, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, has expressed his commitment to ensuring that the road network in the area is expanded and existing roads improved.

Speaking to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith in his first media engagement after being confirmed, Mr. Aka-Eri explained that, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr. Dominic Ayine, there will be sustained efforts to improve the road infrastructure.

“Apart from the Bolga-Bawku road, we only have the Licence Office–Zuarungu road, which is partly tarred. Apart from that, all the other roads are in a deplorable state. Together with the MP, we intend to push for additional roads.”

“If not fully tarred, at least the Dacheo roads, Zono, and the Yarigabisi–Gambibgo road should be gravelled and levelled to a standard that can make people comfortable,” he said.

Additionally, the Assembly will prioritise the construction of culverts. The DCE noted that in some areas, while roads have been created, the absence of culverts means water runs directly over the road, affecting its quality and longevity.

“Water washes parts of the roads away, so we need to work on the culverts,” he said.

The President’s nominee, Jacob Abugre Aka–Eri, was confirmed as the District Chief Executive for the Bolgatanga East District Assembly on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, following a vote by assembly members.

The Bolgatanga East District has 16 elected assembly members and 8 government appointees, bringing the total to 24. Out of the 24 votes cast, Mr. Aka–Eri received 23 “Yes” votes and only one “No” vote.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Aka–Eri pledged to drive the development agenda of President John Dramani Mahama within the Bolgatanga East District across all sectors.

“There are various challenges facing Bolga East. These challenges are deeply rooted and multifaceted—from youth unemployment and infrastructure gaps to climate vulnerabilities and limited access to quality healthcare and education. These challenges, however, are not insurmountable. With a strategy of patient and persistent engagement, I believe we can turn our challenges into opportunities,” he stated.
