Unemployed trained teachers petition MoE over delayed postings

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT), comprising 2023 graduates from the 46 accredited public Colleges of Education across Ghana, has formally petitioned the Ministry of Education, calling for urgent action to grant financial clearance and open the Ghana Education Service (GES) recruitment portal to facilitate their employment.

In a letter dated May 15, 2025, and addressed to the Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu, the group congratulated him on his appointment and expressed hope that his tenure would mark a turning point in resolving the persistent challenges faced by qualified but unemployed trained teachers.

A copy of the letter, made available to A1 Radio, highlighted the growing frustration and uncertainty among thousands of certified teachers who have fulfilled all required processes.

The concerns include completing a rigorous four-year academic program, passing the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), undertaking a mandatory one-year national service in 2024 (which concluded in February 2025), and acquiring provisional teaching licenses—set to expire in 2026.

CUTT emphasized the emotional, social, and financial toll the delay in postings has placed on its members and their families. The group called for greater transparency and timely communication from the ministry regarding the recruitment process. Specifically, they sought answers to the following: when financial clearance will be granted, when the GES recruitment and posting process will begin, and any additional steps required to complete recruitment.

The letter strongly urged the ministry to issue a public statement to clarify the timeline and next steps in order to manage expectations and provide relief to the affected graduates.

As of now, the Ministry of Education has not issued an official response.
