The Upper East Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana, Issaka Abubakari, has lauded the foresight and dedication of the company’s founder, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, for significantly transforming Ghana’s sanitation landscape since 2006.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Abubakari stated that without Dr. Agyepong’s timely intervention, Ghana would have been overwhelmed by plastic and liquid waste, plunging the country into a sanitation crisis.
“If not for the visionary leadership of Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong in 2006, Ghana would be a plastic and liquid waste-filled nation by now,” he stressed.
He acknowledged that despite Zoomlion’s aggressive and passionate approach to waste management, challenges remain—particularly in areas not under the company’s care.
“You can easily identify the difference when you compare areas managed by Zoomlion and those left to other sanitation partners,” he said.
While admitting that perfection in sanitation work is unattainable, Mr. Abubakari proudly stated:
“We may not give ourselves 100 percent, but we are 98 percent proud of the positive change we’ve contributed to Ghana’s waste management sector.”
Highlighting the company’s achievements, he revealed that Zoomlion has developed over 30 major infrastructural projects focused on waste treatment and disposal. These initiatives are not only reducing environmental pollution but also empowering young people through education and mentorship—encouraging them to see waste management as a critical path to national development.
Mr. Abubakari therefore called for continued collaboration among government, citizens, and sanitation partners, emphasizing that maintaining a clean Ghana is a shared responsibility.
