UE/R: Nangodi youth condemn brutal killing of NHIS Officer, demand justice

The youth of Nangodi in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region have strongly condemned the gruesome murder of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) officer, whose charred remains were discovered in a burnt vehicle on Monday, May 19, 2025.

At a press conference held in the community on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the youth expressed shock and outrage over the killing, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable.

They called on security agencies to swiftly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The attack reportedly occurred between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. while Mr. Akugri was returning home from Bolgatanga. According to reports, unknown assailants ambushed him, shot him, and set his vehicle ablaze, leaving his body burnt beyond recognition. The brutal nature of the crime has sparked fear and anger among residents across the region.

Speaking on behalf of the youth, Ditamina Gambil Emmanuel emphasized that Nangodi is a peaceful community and dissociated its residents from the heinous act.

“We are a loving people and do not condone such violence. We urge the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served,” he stated.

The youth also called for an increased security presence in the area to prevent further attacks.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the suspects as residents continue to demand answers and accountability for the shocking murder.
