George Solomon Gbenga has been elected as the new Chairman of the Bolgatanga District branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). In a keenly contested election, Mr. Gbenga secured 77 out of 140 votes, emerging ahead of his opponents.

In his acceptance speech, Chairman Gbenga acknowledged the challenges facing members of the association, including delayed promotions, inadequate teaching and learning materials, and the need for continuous professional development.

He, however, expressed optimism about the opportunities for growth and improvement. Mr. Gbenga pledged to lead the association with transparency, integrity, and a firm commitment to addressing the concerns of its members.

“I am aware of the challenges that confront us—our water issues, delays in promotions, inadequate teaching and learning materials, and the need for continuous professional development. But I also see a great opportunity. Together, we can act on it to be stronger, speak louder, and act boldly. As chairman, my doors will remain open. I will lead with transparency, with integrity, and most importantly, with you in mind. Your concerns will be my concerns.”

He emphasized the importance of unity, calling on members to rally together with one voice, regardless of their backgrounds.

Other elected officers include Joshua Dok as Vice Chairman and Patience Ayiwah Treasure. Linda Anyigra was elected as the Education and Administration Representative, while Lolig Hellen Depok will serve as the Basic School Representative. The rest are Asakiya Richard as Second Cycle Representative, Nsoh Akolga Samuel as Trustee, and Atogtue Sulemana as TVET Representative.
