Ebo Bruce-Quansah, the General Manager of A1 Radio in Bolgatanga, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Chairman of the Upper East Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the upcoming 2025 elections.

In a statement released to members of the Association following his vetting by the Elections and Vetting Committee on June 5, Mr. Bruce-Quansah appealed to journalists across the region to support his bid, emphasizing unity, inclusiveness, and capacity building as the pillars of his campaign.

“I come to you not as a member of a common religious group, tribe, or as a brother or friend; I come as a member of this noble association,” he stated. “GJA is what binds us; one family we all belong to.”

Having served as part of the current regional executive led by outgoing chairman William Nlanjerbor Jalulah, Bruce-Quansah highlighted his contributions to the administration’s successes. He acknowledged the work of the previous leadership under Eric Amoh and noted that each new administration should improve on the foundations laid by its predecessor.

A Vision for Growth and Strategic Positioning

In his address, Bruce-Quansah stressed the need for the GJA in the Upper East Region to undergo strategic restructuring aimed at attracting partnerships and collaborations to better protect and empower journalists.

“What our association needs at this point is strategic positioning to attract more partnerships and collaborations to build the capacity of members, protect our members, and assure them that it is worth remaining with the GJA,” he said.

He promised to build strong structures and functioning committees with clear mandates to ensure that the association operates efficiently and equitably, regardless of who occupies the leadership position.

Inclusive and Approachable Leadership

Should he be elected, Bruce-Quansah pledged to foster an inclusive and approachable leadership style that encourages participation from all practicing journalists. He stated his commitment to encouraging more journalists to join the GJA, stay in good standing, and aspire to leadership roles.

“The GJA Regional leadership should not be a baton race for a few. Every interested member shall be encouraged and prepared to participate,” he said. “I intend to spread the power and get more people involved as we seek innovative ways to improve our welfare and community interactions.”

Call to Action

Concluding his message, Bruce-Quansah urged members of the Upper East GJA to critically assess his campaign messages and make a decisive choice in the election.

“I urge all members of the fraternity who constitute the voters to be steadfast and not allow anyone to mislead you to deny the Upper East Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association the opportunity to have a selfless and caring leader,” he stated.

With the GJA regional elections on the horizon and the current chairman stepping down after a successful term, the race for leadership promises to shape the next phase of journalism development and member empowerment in the Upper East Region.
