Over 1,000 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) 2025 candidates across the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region have received crucial support from Emmanuel Bortey Borketey, Chief Executive Officer of Charger Group Limited, producers of Happy Man Bitters.
The generous intervention included the distribution of 1,000 mathematical sets and mentorship sessions aimed at motivating students ahead of the national exams.
The initiative, designed to ease the financial burden on underprivileged students, has been met with overwhelming appreciation from candidates, parents, and educators alike. For many families, the cost of acquiring a mathematical set—an essential tool for the BECE—posed a significant challenge.
“My parents were considering selling our goat to buy me a mathematical set. This donation has saved us from that hardship,” one student shared emotionally.
Another added, “I was planning to borrow a set during the exams. Now, I can fully focus on my preparation.”
The donation covered 15 basic schools in the municipality, including Sakabisi JHS, St. John’s Catholic JHS, Anglican JHS Bolga, Dorongo JHS, and Sherigu JHS, among others. The support highlights Mr. Borketey’s strong commitment to corporate social responsibility and educational empowerment in northern Ghana.
Speaking on behalf of the Happy Man Bitters team, a company representative emphasized the CEO’s personal passion for education and youth development.
“Mr. Borketey understands the transformative power of education. This is more than a donation—it’s an effort to inspire confidence and excellence among young Ghanaians.”
According to the Ghana Education Service, 19,523 candidates are sitting for the 2025 BECE in the Upper East Region, including 8,842 boys and 10,681 girls from both public and private schools. Mr. Borketey’s intervention is expected to improve not only material access but also the morale of beneficiaries as they tackle the critical examinations.
The initiative also aligns with ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Education, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, to ensure equitable access to education for all children in Ghana.
As students in the Upper East Region begin their BECE journey, Mr. Borketey’s support stands as a powerful example of private sector involvement in national development, reinforcing the idea that no child should be left behind due to lack of basic learning tools.
